Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Charge Technologist or designated authority, the Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist is tasked with overseeing and providing technical support to a specific section within the laboratory. The Senior Technologist may also be involved in various programs such as Research and Development, Education, Quality Assurance, and Safety Management. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a secure environment in compliance with professional and provincial standards while ensuring adherence to quality assurance protocols and maintaining the benchmarks established by Accreditation.

Experience
  • Preferred minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
  • Supervisory experience is an advantage.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • Successful completion of the CMLTM Prior Learning Assessment process for a specialized discipline, as determined by the Employer may also be considered.
  • Advanced academic qualifications (e.g., A.R.T. or B.Sc.) are preferred.
  • Relevant training or seminars are advantageous.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) is required.
  • Current membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is considered beneficial.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Training in Workplace Health and Safety is preferred.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge for result interpretation, troubleshooting, and method assessment.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize laboratory duties associated with the Senior Technologist role.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with precision and attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all information entrusted to the position.
  • Fluency in both French and English may be required.
  • Capability to fulfill the responsibilities as outlined.
Physical Requirements
  • Availability for shifts, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
  • Participation in standby and callback duty may be required.
  • Rotation through various workstations as needed.
  • Exposure to all hazards and risks associated with laboratory work.

This term position may conclude earlier as specified in the collective agreement.
