The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is dedicated to the coordination and integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across the region. The organization also provides province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and operational functions for health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Charge Technologist or Designate, the Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist is tasked with overseeing and providing technical guidance to a specific section within the laboratory. The Senior Technologist may also be responsible for various programs, including Research and Development, Education, Quality Assurance, and Safety. The incumbent will ensure a safe working environment in accordance with professional and provincial standards and uphold compliance with quality assurance initiatives and accreditation requirements. Responsibilities are carried out in alignment with the Mission and Values of Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, as well as current policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.

Experience
  • Preferred minimum of three years of recent relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • Successful completion of the CMLTM Prior Learning Assessment process for a discipline specialty, as determined by the Employer, may also be considered.
  • Advanced academic qualifications (e.g., A.R.T. or B.Sc.) are preferred.
  • Relevant courses or seminars are advantageous.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) is required.
  • Current membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is considered an asset.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Training in Workplace Health and Safety Programs is preferred.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge for result interpretation, troubleshooting, and method assessment.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills for bench duties associated with the Senior Technologist role.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with precision and attention to detail.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all information entrusted to the position.
  • Fluency in both French and English may be required.
  • Ability to fulfill the duties as described.
Physical Requirements
  • Availability for shifts, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
  • Participation in standby and callback duty may be required.
  • Rotation through various workstations as needed.
  • Exposure to all hazards associated with laboratory work.
