Job Summary

The Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in providing emotional support, information, referrals, and advocacy to women and children in crisis. This position requires a strong understanding of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to women and children in crisis, utilizing a trauma-informed care approach
  • Facilitate day-to-day communal living among residents, promoting a safe and supportive environment
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and service providers to ensure access to resources and services
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in areas such as crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and trauma-informed care
Requirements
  • Diploma in Community Social Services, Social Service Work, or a related field
  • Two years of recent experience providing support to women and/or children in crisis within a residential setting
  • Level 1 Occupational First Aid Certificate, Mandt training, Food Safe Certificate, WHMIS training, and Narcan certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including de-briefing, active listening, conflict resolution, and group facilitation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Indigenous and Racialized Women
  • Knowledge of child welfare and protection issues, including relevant legislation and reporting requirements
  • Proven ability to work in a stressful and changing work environment
