Job Title: Senior Director of Operations

First Transit Canada is seeking a Senior Director of Operations to oversee our operations in the regions of B.C and Alberta. This role will necessitate significant travel across various locations.

Job Purpose:

The primary objective of this position is to collaborate closely with Branch Managers and staff to ensure exceptional service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders, in alignment with the Service-Profit chain. The role involves providing effective coaching to team members and supporting their professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Exhibit expertise in operations management, demonstrating strong logistical planning capabilities, management experience, and a comprehensive understanding of operational dynamics, including profit and loss considerations.
  2. Address challenges with a focus on accountability, effective delegation, and decisive action.
  3. Lead employee relations initiatives, inspire staff, and foster coordinated efforts to meet corporate objectives.
  4. Build robust relationships with employees and implement successful recruitment practices.
  5. Guide labor relations matters, including arbitrations and grievance hearings.
  6. Ensure compliance with the Freedom of Association policy.
  7. Direct the application of collective bargaining agreements and related issues.
  8. Conduct evaluations of facilities and recommend enhancements or alternative locations to meet business requirements.
  9. Demonstrate proficiency in safety management practices and ensure adherence to federal and state safety regulations.
  10. Establish strong customer relationships through effective communication and a commitment to exceeding client expectations.
  11. Exhibit excellent presentation skills and maintain a high level of visibility through interactions with clients, community organizations, and government officials.
  12. Maintain accurate records related to compliance, personnel files, and internal reporting.
  13. Provide leadership and strategic decision-making across multiple locations.
  14. Resolve operational issues at various sites.
  15. Recommend operational improvements for different locations.
Minimum Education & Certifications Required:

A four-year degree or equivalent experience is required.

Experience & Skills Required:
  1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management.
  2. Strong analytical abilities.
  3. Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  4. Comprehensive understanding of safety principles.
  5. Proficient in computer use, with the ability to access resources and communicate effectively via email.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Applicants must reside in either B.C or Alberta.

  • Office environment
  • Oil Sands/Camp environment
  • Maintenance shop/yard environment
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%
