The Health and Safety Advisor is a critical role within our organization, responsible for developing, implementing, and leading Health and Safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for our employees. This role will be the first point of contact for safety-related concerns and is crucial in ensuring compliance with all local health and safety legislations.
Key Responsibilities:- Program and Policy Development: Design, implement, and revise comprehensive and mandatory health and safety policies, programs, and training to ensure 100% compliance and understanding of policies.
- Incident Reporting and Investigations: Conduct regular risk audits, assess potential risks, lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses, and compile detailed reports with recommendations for improvement.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changes in legislation and industry standards, regularly review policies and programs to ensure compliance, and chair the Joint H&S Committee to schedule meetings, take minutes, and create agendas.
- Foster a Health and Safety Culture: Engage with employees at all levels, ensure all staff are trained in emergency response procedures, and maintain training records and compliance.
- Education: A degree or diploma in HR, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the retail or logistics industry.
- Knowledge: Experience with learning management systems, knowledge of Canadian and provincial legislation and employment standards.
- Abilities: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, work efficiently in high-pressure situations, and take a program or situation to the next steps.
