Role Overview

The Technical Services Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing essential technical functions that bolster mine site operations.

Key Responsibilities

Here’s a glimpse of your daily responsibilities:

  • Implement critical safety initiatives effectively, including verification audits, safety systems, job task analyses, and planned inspections within the Technical Services Departments.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding and consistent application of the fatality risk management program.
  • Develop and enhance risk assessment and hazard operation review processes within Musselwhite Mine.
  • Oversee the technical services deliverables related to Engineering and production geology.
  • Ensure the integration of fatality risk management within departmental activities and outputs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for the Technical Services Department.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses, determining appropriate training needs.
  • Recognize and cultivate succession candidates along with their development requirements.
  • Facilitate innovative thinking sessions to ensure the Musselwhite strategy evolves in alignment with management objectives.
  • Coordinate planning sessions for projects requiring complex interactions among various groups.
  • Ensure a steady flow of resource generation, reserve assessments, life-of-mine planning, budgeting, and detailed mine planning and quality control for operations.
  • Identify project priorities and ensure awareness of key project and permitting schedules, meeting deadlines.
  • Recognize key project risks and opportunities, developing mitigation strategies.
  • Provide comprehensive integrated technical support to operations.
  • Identify operational priorities and incorporate them into long- and medium-term plans.
  • Timely identification of engineering risks and opportunities to ensure necessary engineering is completed prior to mining activities.
  • Establish quality control measures to ensure safe operations, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and maximum value creation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Applied Science.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mine operations and technical roles.
  • At least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong technical acumen with a solid understanding of key business drivers in gold mining.
  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and develop Technical Services Department heads and high-potential employees.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Active listening capabilities.
  • Open to leading change initiatives.
  • Focused, clear, and decisive in decision-making.
  • Able to influence and align with Musselwhite Mine Management and the Technical Services Department.
Work Environment

Location Details

  • This position is based in Thunder Bay, ON, with a preferred work schedule of 4 days on, 3 days off, at the Fly-In/Fly-Out Musselwhite Mine location.
  • Relocation assistance is available for the successful candidate.
