Project Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at the Ministry of Mines. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise in the design and construction of mine tailings facilities and mine rehabilitation projects throughout the Province.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical support in assigned work on structural planning, hydrologic, hydraulic, hydrogeologic, and geotechnical studies.
- Assist in the preparation of reports setting out findings for tailings management facilities, mining dam construction, and monitoring, inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction projects associated with assigned mining projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of detailed analyses and designs for new structural systems such as tailings dams.
- Participate in operational audits of Crown-held and private sector water management facilities.
- Participate in engineering compliance reviews such as the auditing of mine closure plans and technical/financial submissions.
- Contribute to engineering reviews of development or alterations of mine tailings dam structures.
- Through the direction of the Senior Project Engineer, participate in various project phases or lead smaller projects.
- You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent.
- The position requires a Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
- You have working knowledge and experience in the application of civil and/or geotechnical engineering design and construction theory, principles, and practices as applied to water resource management (i.e. hydrology and hydraulics) dams, and erosion control.
- You have knowledge in one of the following sub-disciplines:
- a. civil or geotechnical engineering specializing in soil mechanics, seismic assessment, the design and overseeing the construction of earth embankment dams.
- b. hydrogeology, including groundwater modelling and geochemistry.
- c. hydrology, including surface water modelling, spillway and channel design, erosion and sediment management.
- You have technical knowledge that is required to identify sources/types of water, air, and solid pollutants from complex mine closure projects, review engineering specifications and designs based on sound engineering principles.
- You have working knowledge and interpretative understanding of relevant federal and provincial legislation.
- You have consultative and relationship management skills to maintain effective working relationships, collaborate with other branches, other ministries, and interest groups.
- You have written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to prepare a broad range of progress reports, options, presentations, and to provide testimony in court proceedings.
- You have knowledge of project management principles and organizational and coordination skills to provide support in the delivery of specific capital construction project initiatives and activities.
- You have knowledge of computers and relevant computer applications (i.e. specific engineering applications for planning, analyzing, and monitoring projects).
- You are proficient with the use of a variety of software (word processing, spreadsheets, project management, presentation) to draft technical reports and plans.
