Job Title: Woodlands Director

AV Group NB Inc. is a leading global company in the viscose staple fiber industry, operating a prehydrolysis kraft pulp mill in the picturesque Saint John River Valley. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Woodlands Director to lead our harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations on our Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver a profitable Woodlands budget in a challenging wood market
  • Ensure high-quality and cost-effective wood supply to our two NB Mills
  • Maintain healthy wood inventories by species and form according to our safety stocks policy
  • Collaborate with Unit Heads and Central Operations to reduce wood costs and improve fiber yield and quality
  • Negotiate wood contracts with market participants and the government
  • Understand the impact of Woodlands department decisions on the company's P&L
  • Build collaborative business networks within and outside AV Group
  • Provide leadership to the Woodlands team and the AV Group team
  • Ensure autonomy in leading operations and deliverables
  • Command of sustainable certifications and credentials such as FSC, PEFC, SFI, etc.
  • Represent the company in sustainability forums and conferences
  • Live our safety culture and be a safety ambassador in the field
Requirements:
  • Bachelor degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering
  • MBA considered a plus
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the industry
  • Proven commitment to safety
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong commercial and financial skills
  • Highly passionate individual
  • High levels of resilience
