**Job Summary:**

The Waste Depot Labourer is a critical role within GFL Environmental, responsible for the safe and efficient handling, consolidation, and processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials received by our facilities.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Provide exceptional customer service to residents visiting our depot, ensuring a positive experience and fostering a sense of community.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with York Regional employees and the public, promoting a culture of transparency and cooperation.
  • Stay up-to-date with all on-site training documents, ensuring a high level of knowledge and expertise in waste management practices.
  • Receive and process Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste (MHSW) from residents, adhering to strict safety protocols and regulations.
  • Identify, sort, and pack MHSW into designated containers, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of grounds and facilities, upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
  • Follow supervisor instructions and guidance, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, prioritizing personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all rules and regulations governing the operation of our depot.
  • Monitor and report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs, ensuring seamless operations and minimizing downtime.

**Requirements and Qualifications:**

  • Ability to perform moderately labor-intensive and repetitive tasks, with a focus on efficiency and productivity.
  • Physical fitness, with the ability to lift over 50 pounds and stand for extended periods on cement surfaces.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems in a logical and methodical manner, with a focus on finding creative solutions.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to learn and grow.
