Position Overview

The Diabetes Nurse Educator plays a crucial role in providing family-centered care aligned with the mission and values of IWK Health Centre. This position involves collaborating with families to deliver safe, evidence-based prenatal care that is holistic and goal-oriented. The successful candidate will maintain current knowledge in educational practices and diabetes management, working within a multidisciplinary team while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply the nursing process in delivering comprehensive care to families.
  • Facilitate research initiatives and contribute to the professional growth of colleagues and healthcare students.
  • Stay updated on best practices in diabetes education and prenatal care.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing required; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia.
  • Certification as a Diabetes Educator or actively pursuing certification (to be completed within one year of hire).
  • Current CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in high-risk obstetrics.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work independently.
  • Experience in prenatal education and care for families in high-risk situations is an asset.
