Position Overview

The Diabetes Nurse Educator is responsible for implementing the nursing process to deliver family-centered care aligned with the IWK Health Centre's philosophy and mission. This role involves collaborating with families to provide safe, evidence-based prenatal care that is holistic and goal-oriented. The successful candidate will stay updated on educational theories and advancements in diabetes care, working within a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate research initiatives and contribute to the professional growth of peers and healthcare students.
  • Deliver educational support and resources to families managing diabetes during the perinatal period.
  • Maintain current knowledge in diabetes care and related fields.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing required; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia.
  • Certification as a Diabetes Educator or actively pursuing certification, to be completed within one year of hire.
  • Current CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of high-risk obstetrical experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience in prenatal education and care for families in high-risk situations is preferred.
