Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the design, coordination, execution, and analysis of in vitro pharmacology experiments aimed at advancing innovative technologies for antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).
  • Functionally characterizes small molecules, antibodies, bioconjugates, or ADCs through various cell-based assays and techniques, including flow cytometry, high-throughput screening, live cell imaging, and 3D tissue culture, to support project advancement.
  • Leads and implements novel assay development initiatives, designing and troubleshooting methods to profile the mechanisms of action of ADCs across diverse payload classes.
  • Utilizes knowledge of cancer biology, medicinal chemistry, and other scientific methodologies to conduct advanced analyses and interpret data effectively.
  • Collaborates effectively with team members and other departments to coordinate decision-making experiments for various projects, regularly sharing updates on progress.
  • Prepares and presents data summaries for group meetings, outlining results and future steps, and acts as a representative in specific projects.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, and scientific guidance to junior staff members.
  • Supports mammalian tissue culture activities, ensuring proper expansion, cryopreservation, and database updates of cell lines.
  • May co-author or author scientific publications, conference presentations, patents, and regulatory documents.
  • May represent Zymeworks at relevant scientific conferences.
  • Adheres to standard procedures for data generation, documentation, and archiving, maintaining an accurate electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with scientific standards, safety regulations, and established company policies, contributing to a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Actively promotes an environment of effective collaboration among employees, management, and external partners.

Education and Experience

  • Requires a PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology, or Biochemistry, with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in cell-based or biochemical assay development.
  • Understanding of in vitro cancer models and therapeutic mechanisms of action is essential.
  • Experience in the characterization and analysis of biotherapeutics, including small molecules, antibodies, and ADCs, is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput screening assays and workflows is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with GraphPad and FlowJo software, or similar tools, is considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in techniques such as flow cytometry, high-content analysis, mammalian tissue culture, and immunological/co-culture assays is advantageous.
