Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of in vitro pharmacology studies aimed at advancing innovative technologies for antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).
  • Characterizes small molecules, antibodies, bioconjugates, or ADCs through various cellular assays and techniques, including flow cytometry, high-throughput screening, live cell imaging, and 3D tissue culture, to facilitate project progression.
  • Drives and implements new assay development projects, designing and troubleshooting innovative methods to assess the mechanisms of action of ADCs across diverse payload classes.
  • Utilizes expertise in cancer biology, medicinal chemistry, and other scientific approaches to conduct advanced analyses and interpret data effectively.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to coordinate the execution of critical experiments for various projects, providing regular updates on progress.
  • Prepares and presents data summaries for team meetings, outlining results and future directions, and serves as a representative for specific projects.
  • Offers leadership, mentorship, and scientific guidance to junior team members.
  • Assists with mammalian tissue culture tasks, ensuring proper maintenance, cryopreservation, and database updates for cell lines.
  • May contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, patents, and regulatory documents.
  • May represent Zymeworks at relevant scientific conferences.
  • Follows Zymeworks' standard operating procedures for data generation, documentation, and archiving, maintaining an accurate electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Conducts all work in compliance with scientific standards, occupational safety regulations, and established Zymeworks policies, contributing to a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Actively promotes a culture of effective collaboration among employees, management, and external partners.

Education and Experience

  • Requires a PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology, or Biochemistry, with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in developing cell-based or biochemical assays.
  • Strong understanding of in vitro cancer models and therapeutic mechanisms of action.
  • Experience in characterizing and analyzing biotherapeutics, including small molecules, antibodies, Fc-fusion proteins, and ADCs, is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput screening assays and workflows is a plus.
