Biotechnology Research Assistant, In Vitro Biology

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Co-op Student to join our In Vitro Biology team in the Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) Therapeutic Development department at Zymeworks.
The successful candidate will support and perform experimental tasks related to ADC in vitro assessment, critically analyze and present results, and contribute to the development of clinically and commercially relevant therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities- Support and perform mammalian tissue culture, maintaining numerous tumor cell lines using sterile technique.
- Work with the team to ensure cell lines are properly expanded, cryopreserved, and databases updated as required.
- Perform functional characterization of antibodies and ADCs using flow cytometry, high throughput screening, 3D tissue culture, cell growth inhibition assays with various read-out modalities (luminescence, fluorescence, absorbance), and other methods as required.
- Perform experiments, analyze and disseminate data in group meetings.
- Adhere to Zymeworks standard procedures for generating, documenting, and archiving data, maintaining an accurate, up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook.
- Conduct all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks policies and practices.
- Contribute to a safe and highly efficient laboratory environment through ordering of consumables, preparation of solutions, stocking of consumables, and maintaining a clean working environment.
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Immunology or a related discipline, and successful completion of at least one relevant co-op term is required. Availability for an 8-month co-op term is also required.
- Experience involving mammalian tissue culture, cell-based assays, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, protein purification and quantification or immunocytochemistry would be an asset.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-paced, fast-changing environment.
- Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good computer skills, particularly with Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with or knowledge of GraphPad Prism and FlowJo software are considered an asset.
- Basic working knowledge of antibody structure and function.
