About the Role

The Home Support Worker (HSW) reports to the Assisted Living Clinical Manager and/or designate, delivering holistic and quality care to those we serve. The HSW is a vital member of our team, executing their responsibilities in line with established policies and procedures, while upholding the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhering to established personal service plans.
  • Providing personal care for residents from admission or transfer, including assistance with medication, bathing, grooming, dressing, meal support, oral hygiene, and other applicable care duties.
  • Responding promptly to call bell alarms.
  • Observing and monitoring residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, including unscheduled care requests, and reporting significant observations.
  • Involving residents in organizing and maintaining their living environment, ensuring it aligns with their wishes and needs.
  • Encouraging and assisting residents to engage in social, physical, spiritual, and recreational activities.
  • Keeping up-to-date with community policies and procedures, particularly those related to emergency protocols, equipment management, and safe work practices.
  • Participating in community and educational programs.
  • Night shifts will include housekeeping duties as per the established night routine.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
  • Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 certification and current CPR.
  • Medication Administration Certification required.
  • Previous experience in a care community is preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per Provincial guidelines.
  • Must be in good health and physically capable of performing repetitive tasks, including lifting, squatting, bending, standing, and walking as necessary to fulfill the duties of the position.
