About the Role

The Health Care Aide (HCA) is a vital member of our care team, providing holistic and quality care to our residents. As an HCA, you will work closely with the Director of Care and other team members to ensure the best possible outcomes for our residents.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team.
  • Provide personal care services, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and assisting with meals and oral hygiene.
  • Respond to call bells and alarms, and monitor residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes.
  • Utilize proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aids, such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
  • Assist with lifting and transferring residents, following established lifting and safety techniques.
  • Provide nutritional assistance, including meal service and tray assistance, and report any appetite or fluid intake changes to the nurse.
  • Encourage resident participation in food service and clean-up, and perform laundry of personal clothing as required.
  • Involve residents in organizing and maintaining their home environment, ensuring it meets their needs and wishes.
  • Attend and participate in community and education programs, and work collaboratively with all team members and supervisors.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Graduate from a recognized Care Aide program.
  • Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate and Medication Administration Certification are assets.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care facility is an asset.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently, and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check, as per Provincial guidelines.
  • Must be in good health, physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand, and walk as required.
