Role Overview
The Home Support Worker (HSW) plays a vital role within our community, reporting to the Assisted Living Clinical Manager and/or designate. The HSW is responsible for delivering holistic and quality care to those we serve, adhering to established policies and procedures while ensuring that residents' rights are upheld and they are treated with the utmost respect.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Implementing established personal service plans.
- Delivering personal care to residents upon admission or transfer, which includes assistance with medication, bathing, grooming, dressing, meal support, oral hygiene, and other care tasks as necessary.
- Responding promptly to call bell alerts.
- Monitoring and documenting residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, including addressing unscheduled care requests and reporting significant observations.
- Engaging residents in organizing and maintaining their living spaces, ensuring alignment with their preferences and needs.
- Encouraging and facilitating residents' participation in social, physical, spiritual, and recreational activities.
- Keeping abreast of community policies and procedures, especially those related to emergency protocols and safe work practices.
- Participating in community and educational programs.
- Performing housekeeping duties during night shifts as per the established routine.
- Carrying out other related tasks as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Completion of a recognized Care Aide Program.
- Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
- Valid First Aid Level 1 certification and current CPR.
- Medication Administration Certification is mandatory.
- Previous experience in a care community is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
- Successful applicants must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with Provincial guidelines.
- Candidates must be in good health and physically capable of performing repetitive tasks, including lifting, squatting, bending, standing, and walking as required for the role.
