About the Role

The Health Care Aide (HCA) reports to the Director of Care and/or designate, providing holistic and quality care to those we serve. The HCA is a vital member of our team, executing their responsibilities in accordance with established policies and procedures while upholding the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Adhering to established care plans. Delivering personal care to residents upon admission or transfer, including bathing, grooming, dressing, assisting with meals, oral hygiene, and performing other relevant care duties. Responding promptly to call bells and alarms. Observing and monitoring residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, and reporting significant observations. Employing proper safety protocols when utilizing mechanical aids such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers for resident transport. Assisting with the lifting and/or transferring of residents by following established lifting and safety techniques. Providing nutritional support to residents (e.g., meals, nourishment, and tray service) and assisting them as needed during meal times. Ensuring residents are transported to and from dining areas according to meal service schedules and reporting any changes in appetite or fluid intake to the nurse. Encouraging resident participation in food service and clean-up activities. Performing laundry duties for residents' personal clothing as necessary. Involving residents in organizing and maintaining their living environment, ensuring it aligns with their preferences and needs. Participating in community and educational programs. Collaborating positively and effectively with all team members and supervisors. Carrying out other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

Completion of a recognized Care Aide Program. Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry. Food Safe Level 1 Certificate is an asset. Medication Administration Certification is an asset. Previous experience in a long-term care facility is advantageous. Demonstrates the ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions. All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with Provincial guidelines. Must be in good health and physically capable of performing repetitive tasks, including lifting, squatting, bending, standing, and walking as required for the role.
