Job Title: Associate Mortgage Underwriter

We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Mortgage Underwriter to join our team at First National. As a key member of our Residential Underwriting department, you will play a critical role in supporting the underwriting and credit decision process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and verify accuracy of required documentation related to income, down payment, and property using sound due diligence and in compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with mortgage brokers and external partners, including mortgage insurers, appraisers, title insurance companies, and solicitors.
  • Interact with mortgage brokers for the collection of all required documents to satisfy mortgage commitment conditions.
  • Escalate any documentation issues to the Underwriter for review and sign-off.
  • Document clear and complete notes within the mortgage underwriting system.
  • Respond to all inquiries within established turnaround times.
Requirements:
  • Completed post-secondary education or equivalent work experience required.
  • Previous experience within the Financial Services sector preferred.
  • Previous experience within the Mortgage industry an asset.
  • Working knowledge of PC software in a Windows environment required.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Strong aptitude for service excellence.
  • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal in French and English.
  • Ability to deal with conflict.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Positive team player.
  • Fully competent in working with basic PC software and working knowledge of the suite of Microsoft office products.
  • Ability to manage pressure in an environment of high volume processing with tight turnaround times.
