Job Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Mortgage Underwriter to join our Residential Underwriting team at First National. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the underwriting and credit decision process by reviewing documentation and applying sound due diligence.


Key Responsibilities



  • Review and verify the accuracy of required documentation related to income, down payment, and property using sound due diligence and internal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with mortgage brokers and external partners such as appraisers, title insurance companies, and solicitors.
  • Interact with mortgage brokers to collect all required documents to satisfy mortgage commitment conditions.
  • Escalate any documentation issues to the Underwriter for review and sign-off.
  • Document clear and complete notes within the mortgage underwriting system.
  • Respond to inquiries within established turnaround times.

Requirements



  • Completed post-secondary education or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience within the Financial Services sector is preferred.
  • Previous experience within the Mortgage industry is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of PC software in a Windows environment is required.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Strong aptitude for service excellence.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal in French and English.
  • Ability to deal with conflict.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Positive team player.
  • Fully competent in working with basic PC software and working knowledge of the suite of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to manage pressure in an environment of high volume processing with tight turnaround times.
