Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in the Outpatient Orthopedic Clinic at BC Children's Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary care team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to children and families in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide direct patient care by implementing care plans and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to evaluate patient-centered care.
- Plan and deliver direct care for patients, including reviewing patient history, developing care plans, and meeting with healthcare teams to discuss and review care plans.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including health information, nursing observations, and interventions.
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers by providing information, demonstrating procedures, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching methods.
- Participate in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students through precepting and mentoring.
- Identify learning needs and engage in learning activities to meet these needs, such as attending in-services.
- Act as a clinical resource and support person to patients, families, and healthcare professionals by explaining nursing decisions.
- Contribute to patient and family care conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as a member of the healthcare team.
- Provide input to managers regarding policies, procedures, and operational requirements by observing service needs and providing suggestions.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by following established emergency procedures and safety practices.
- Promote the implementation and evaluation of research and quality improvement activities, including knowledge generation, translation, and dissemination.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One year recent related experience in the designated clinical area and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to relate effectively to children and their families and others.
- Ability to function as an active member of a multidisciplinary care team.
- Ability to demonstrate effective CPR techniques.
- Ability to organize work.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable computer software.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
