Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  1. Manage and oversee various environmental projects from start to finish.
  2. Create project strategies, schedules, and financial plans.
  3. Engage with clients, stakeholders, and team members to achieve project goals.
  4. Track project developments and implement changes as needed for successful outcomes.
  5. Conduct field studies, including ecological evaluations, wildlife assessments, and habitat studies.
  6. Gather, analyze, and interpret environmental data.
  7. Draft comprehensive reports, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
  8. Ensure all projects meet local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations.
  9. Guide and mentor junior biologists and environmental technicians.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (Master's degree is preferred).
  2. At least 5 years of experience in managing environmental projects.
  3. Professional designation (e.g., P.Biol., RPBio) is advantageous.
  4. Demonstrated experience in environmental assessments and fieldwork.
  5. Strong project management capabilities, including budgeting and scheduling.

About the Role

The client is looking for a Senior Biologist to join their team. Candidates should have relevant experience and qualifications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Leading and participating in field teams across various disciplines (wildlife, birds, fish, aquatic habitats, water quality, vegetation, soils, wetlands, environmental monitoring, sediment, and erosion control).
  2. Contributing to environmental impact assessments, mitigation strategies, and project proposals.
  3. Assisting in the preparation and acquisition of regulatory approvals for diverse projects such as transportation, renewable energy, mining, and oil and gas.
  4. Senior-level responsibilities may include Field Coordination and Project Management.
  5. Providing technical leadership and mentorship within a collaborative team environment.
  6. Fostering a strong safety culture and working effectively within the corporate framework.
Candidate Profile

To qualify, candidates should possess a minimum of a B.Sc. in Biology or a related field, along with five years of experience, and RPBio, PBiol, and/or P.Ag. designation or eligibility. Additional courses or certifications in the following areas would be considered beneficial:

  1. Electrofishing Certification (approved by WorkSafe BC).
  2. Fish identification.
  3. Bird survey methodologies and identification.
  4. Amphibian salvage techniques and identification.
  5. Erosion and Sediment Control.
  6. Plant identification.

Candidates with the following skills and experience will be highly regarded:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of field techniques and regulatory standards for conducting various field activities (e.g., wildlife assessments, bird surveys, water quality testing, fisheries inventories/salvage, environmental monitoring/inspection).
  2. Understanding of provincial and federal environmental assessment regulations.
  3. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills, along with physical fitness.
  4. Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  5. Strong writing and communication skills, with a desire to foster business growth and collaborate closely with other environmental professionals and stakeholders.
  6. Proficiency in operating field equipment is a plus.
  7. A valid Driver's License is required due to the nature of the role.
