Job Title: Senior Wildlife Biologist

Partner Staffing is currently working with our client seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Wildlife Biologist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading day-to-day operations of our field monitoring programs, ensuring they are completed safely with a high level of technical expertise within budget, schedule, and work scope.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Mentor and supervise the wildlife team to ensure operational excellence and compliance with company safety and HR policies and procedures.
  • Execute field programs safely and within budget, schedule, and work scope with a high level of technical capability.
  • Train and coach team members with feedback on safe work performance, work planning, quality data collection, and strong technical performance.
  • Mentor team members in support of their professional development.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and ensure all site access and activities comply with site requirements.
  • Manage field schedules, adjusting plans and tasks when required, and approving short-term time-off requests.
  • Support the COR-certified HSE program through day-to-day communication of safety messages, oversight, responding to near misses and incidents, and support investigations as needed.
  • Participate in field programs to provide team support either as scheduled or when emergent needs arise.
  • Provide environmental data quality assurance and control and database management.
  • Must have habitat and species modeling experience.
  • 8 years of postgraduate experience in a consulting environment or equivalent.
  • Registered as a Professional Biologist in Alberta or BC.
  • Ability to manage budgets, logistics, and resources.
  • Experience presenting technical material to clients, regulators, communities, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Thorough understanding of terrestrial environmental monitoring programs, protocols, procedures, and regulatory permitting requirements.
  • Ability to identify Boreal wildlife by sight, vocalization, and sign.
  • Experience conducting surveys for breeding or migratory birds, amphibians, and mammals.
  • Thorough understanding of wildlife habitat and habitat requirements.
  • Experience with statistical modeling and spatial data analyses.
  • Wildlife handling and bird banding experience.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a B.Sc. in Biology or related discipline with five years of experience.
  • RPBio, PBiol, and/or P.Ag. designation or eligibility.
  • Courses or certifications in electrofishing, fish identification, bird survey methodology, amphibian salvage methodology, erosion and sediment control, and plant identification.
  • Sound knowledge of field techniques and regulatory standards necessary for conducting a variety of field activities.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management skills, and physically fit.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, desire to grow business, and work closely with other environmental professionals, environmental discipline leads, and First Nations.
  • Proficiency in the operation of field equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License.
About the Opportunity:

Our client is currently seeking a Senior Biologist to join the team. Preference is for candidates to be based out of Fort St James, Fort St John, and Prince George, BC. However, we will consider candidates that reside outside of these areas.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and joining field teams in various disciplines.
  • Contributing to environmental impact assessments, mitigation plans, and proposals.
  • Assisting in preparing and obtaining regulatory approvals for a wide variety of projects.
  • Senior level responsibilities could include Field Coordination and Project Management, Technical leadership and mentorship within a team environment, Promoting a strong safety culture, and working collaboratively within corporate culture.

To qualify, you will need a minimum of a B.Sc. in Biology or related discipline with five years of experience, and RPBio, PBiol, and/or P.Ag. designation or eligibility. Courses or certifications in the following areas would be considered assets: electrofishing, fish identification, bird survey methodology, amphibian salvage methodology, erosion and sediment control, and plant identification.

Candidates with the following skills and experience will be considered:

  • Sound knowledge of field techniques and regulatory standards necessary for conducting a variety of field activities.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management skills, and physically fit.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, desire to grow business, and work closely with other environmental professionals, environmental discipline leads, and First Nations.
  • Proficiency in the operation of field equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Courses or certifications in the following areas would be considered assets: Electrofishing Certification (approved by WorkSafe BC) Fish identification Bird survey methodology and bird identification Amphibian salvage methodology and amphibian identification Erosion and Sediment Control Plant identification Candidates with the following skills and experience will be considered: Sound knowledge of field techniques and regulatory standards necessary for conducting a variety of field activities (i.e., wildlife assessments, birdsurveys, water quality, fisheries inventories/ salvage, environmental monitoring/inspection) Knowledge of the provincial and federal environmental assessment regulatory environment Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management skills and physically fit Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Excellent writing and communication skills, desire to grow business, and work closely (both in a field lead and support role) with other environmental professionals, environmental discipline leads, and First Nations Proficiency in the operation of field equipment is an asset Due to the nature of the role, you must have a valid Driver's License.
