The successfulapplicant should also be registered or qualified to register as aProfessional Biologist in Alberta orBC.



Requirements

Responsibilities:
  • Mentorand supervise the wildlife team to ensure operational excellenceand compliance with company safety and HR policies andprocedures.
  • Executefield programs safely and within budget schedule and work scopewith a high level of technicalcapability.
  • Trainand coach team members with feedback on safe work performance workplanning quality data collection and strong technicalperformance.
  • Mentorteam members in support of their professionaldevelopment.
  • Buildstrong relationships with clients and ensure all site access andactivities comply with siterequirements.
  • Managefield schedules adjusting plans and tasks when required andapproving shortterm timeoffrequests.
  • Supportthe CORcertified HSE program through daytoday communication ofsafety messages oversight responding to near misses and incidentsand support investigations asneeded.
  • Participatein field programs to provide team support either as scheduled orwhen emergent needsarise.
  • Provideenvironmental data quality assurance and control and databasemanagement.
  • Musthave habitat and species modelingexperience.
  • 8years of postgraduate experience in a consulting environment orequivalent.
  • Registeredas a Professional Biologist in Alberta orBC.
  • Abilityto manage budgets logistics andresources.
  • Experiencepresenting technical material to clients regulators communitiesstakeholders and thepublic.
  • Thoroughunderstanding of terrestrial environmental monitoring programsprotocols procedures and regulatory permittingrequirements.
  • Abilityto identify Boreal wildlife by sight vocalization andsign.
  • Experienceconducting surveys for breeding or migratory birds amphibians andmammals.
  • Thoroughunderstanding of wildlife habitat and habitat requirements
  • Experiencewith statistical modelling and spatial dataanalyses.
  • Wildlifehandling and bird bandingexperience

About the Opportunity Our Client is currently seeking a SeniorBiologist to join the team. Preference is for candidates to bebased out of Fort St James, Fort St John, and Prince George, BC.However, we will consider candidates that reside outside of theseareas. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:Leading and joining field teams in various disciplines (wildlife,birds, fish, aquatic habitat, water quality, vegetation, soils,wetlands, environmental monitoring, sediment, and erosion control)Contributing to environmental impact assessments, mitigation plans,and proposals. Assisting in preparing and obtaining regulatoryapprovals for a wide variety of projects such as transportation,renewable energy, mining, oil, and gas, etc. Senior levelresponsibilities could include Field Coordination and ProjectManagement Technical leadership and mentorship within a teamenvironment Promoting a strong safety culture and workingcollaboratively within corporate culture More About You To qualify,you will need a minimum of a B.Sc. in Biology or related disciplinewith five years experience, and RPBio, PBiol, and/or P.Ag.designation or eligibility. Courses or certifications in thefollowing areas would be considered assets: ElectrofishingCertification (approved by WorkSafe BC) Fish identification Birdsurvey methodology and bird identification Amphibian salvagemethodology and amphibian identification Erosion and SedimentControl Plant identification Candidates with the following skillsand experience will be considered: Sound knowledge of fieldtechniques and regulatory standards necessary for conducting avariety of field activities (i.e., wildlife assessments, birdsurveys, water quality, fisheries inventories/ salvage,environmental monitoring/inspection) Knowledge of the provincialand federal environmental assessment regulatory environmentExcellent organizational, interpersonal, time management skills andphysically fit Ability to work independently with minimalsupervision Excellent writing and communication skills, desire togrow business, and work closely (both in a field lead and supportrole) with other environmental professionals, environmentaldiscipline leads, and First Nations Proficiency in the operation offield equipment is an asset Due to the nature of the role, you musthave a valid Driver's License. Lastly, you will be joining with thepassion to contribute and believe in the work that theydo.
