Registered Nurse Academic Clinical

Primary Purpose: The Department of Family Medicine serves as a comprehensive family practice clinical teaching unit. The selected candidate will undertake a diverse range of responsibilities, encompassing patient care, educational initiatives, clinical training for Family Medicine residents and medical students, quality assurance, and nursing management tasks.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Clinic Manager and accountable to the Clinical Unit Head, this role necessitates leadership, collaboration, educational, and nursing competencies within a teaching clinic environment. You will work in partnership with faculty physicians, residents, medical students, and staff to fulfill the educational objectives of the department while delivering outstanding patient-centered care. Oversight of medical office assistants and student-patient interactions will be part of your responsibilities.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

Instruct College of Medicine learners in essential nursing procedural skills Ensure patient safety within both educational and clinical contexts Support quality assurance and research initiatives undertaken by faculty, residents, and other students as needed Identify learners facing challenges and report appropriately to faculty Integrate experience, skills, and knowledge in delivering patient care Provide triage functions in the clinic and prioritize patient care effectively Contribute to quality assurance objectives by engaging in chronic disease management and initiatives Supervise clinic personnel Offer professional nursing guidance and support to patients, physicians, and residents Foster professional relationships in an interdisciplinary primary health care setting Ensure the availability of necessary clinical supplies Participate in clinic and laboratory quality assurance activities Utilize the electronic medical record system efficiently; and Execute nursing and ancillary duties, including assisting in maintaining the inventory of medical and clinical supplies, alongside various clinical and management responsibilities related to the operation of a busy outpatient family medical teaching practice.

Education: A bachelor's degree in Nursing and a successful appointment as a Registered Nurse. Must hold membership in good standing with the relevant nursing association.

Experience: A minimum of five years of nursing experience in a family practice environment or equivalent experience in an ambulatory or outpatient setting is required. Experience as a nurse educator is considered an asset. Proven experience working collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive environment is essential.

Skills: Maintaining confidentiality and managing sensitive information is crucial for success in this role. Effective communication in a diverse environment that includes learners, patients, staff, and faculty is necessary. The successful candidate will engage in the academic scholarship of interdisciplinary primary health care services and education. The ability to teach, assess, work independently, collaborate in teams, and exercise initiative in stressful situations is essential. Proficiency in using electronic medical records is required.
