Clinical Nurse Educator in Family Medicine

Position Overview: The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Educator to join our Family Medicine Department. This role is integral to our clinical teaching unit, where you will engage in a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing patient care and educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities: As a Clinical Nurse Educator, you will:

  1. Instruct medical learners in essential nursing procedures.
  2. Ensure patient safety within both educational and clinical environments.
  3. Contribute to quality assurance and research initiatives led by faculty and residents.
  4. Identify and support learners facing challenges in their training.
  5. Utilize your expertise to provide high-quality patient care.
  6. Manage clinic triage and prioritize patient needs effectively.
  7. Participate in chronic disease management and quality improvement projects.
  8. Oversee clinic staff and foster a collaborative work environment.
  9. Offer professional nursing guidance to patients and healthcare teams.
  10. Develop and maintain professional relationships in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
  11. Ensure the availability of necessary clinical supplies.
  12. Engage in clinic and laboratory quality assurance activities.
  13. Utilize electronic medical records efficiently.
  14. Assist in maintaining inventory and perform various clinical and administrative tasks.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree in Nursing and hold a valid registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association. A minimum of five years of nursing experience in a family practice or outpatient setting is required, with prior experience in nursing education considered an asset. Experience in diverse and inclusive environments is essential.

Skills Required: Successful candidates will demonstrate confidentiality and adeptness in handling sensitive information. Strong communication skills are vital for interacting with a diverse range of individuals, including learners, patients, and colleagues. The role demands a commitment to academic scholarship in interdisciplinary primary health care and education, along with the ability to teach, assess, and work independently while contributing to team efforts.
