Overview: The Department of Family Medicine operates a comprehensive family practice clinical teaching unit. The selected candidate will engage in a variety of responsibilities, encompassing patient care, educational initiatives, and the clinical training of Family Medicine residents and medical students, alongside quality assurance and nursing management tasks.

Job Responsibilities: Reporting to the Clinic Manager and accountable to the Clinical Unit Head, this role necessitates strong leadership, collaborative teamwork, teaching acumen, and nursing expertise within a clinical educational environment. You will work in partnership with faculty physicians, residents, medical students, and clinic staff to fulfill the educational objectives of the department while delivering outstanding patient-centered care. Oversight of medical office assistants and student-patient interactions will be integral to this position.

Key Duties:

  • Instruct College of Medicine learners in essential nursing procedural skills.
  • Ensure patient safety within both educational and clinical frameworks.
  • Support quality assurance and research initiatives led by faculty, residents, and other medical students as required.
  • Identify and report learners facing challenges to faculty appropriately.
  • Integrate professional experience, skills, and knowledge in patient care delivery.
  • Manage clinic triage functions and prioritize patient care effectively.
  • Contribute to quality assurance objectives by engaging in chronic disease management and related initiatives.
  • Supervise clinic personnel.
  • Provide expert nursing advice and support to patients, physicians, and residents.
  • Foster professional relationships within an interdisciplinary primary health care setting.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary clinical supplies.
  • Participate in clinic and laboratory quality assurance activities.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record system efficiently.
  • Undertake nursing and additional responsibilities, including assisting in maintaining the inventory of medical and clinical supplies, along with various clinical and management tasks associated with a busy outpatient family medical teaching practice.

Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Nursing and a successful designation as a Registered Nurse are required. The candidate must maintain good standing and be registered with the relevant nursing association.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of five years of nursing experience in a family practice environment or equivalent experience in an outpatient setting is essential. Experience in nursing education is advantageous. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive environment is mandatory.

Required Skills: Maintaining confidentiality and managing sensitive information is crucial for success in this role. The candidate must possess effective communication skills in a diverse environment that includes learners, patients, staff, and faculty. The successful applicant will engage in the academic scholarship of interdisciplinary primary health care services and education. The ability to teach, assess, work independently, collaborate in teams, and exercise initiative in high-pressure situations is essential. Proficiency in using electronic medical records is required.
