Position: Unit Aide, PICU

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time (100% FTE) for a long assignment

Role Overview: As a Unit Aide, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for patients and their families within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the healthcare team and enhancing patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the procurement of supplies necessary for the unit.
  • Conduct cleaning and disinfection tasks following established protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives relevant to the Unit Aide role.
  • Complete required Workplace Inspection Reports and address any identified safety concerns.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in patient rooms.
  • Oversee the ordering of non-stock supplies.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of unit equipment.
  • Facilitate the transport of malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate service.
  • Deliver necessary items such as requisitions and specimens as needed.
Work Schedule:

Shifts will vary, including weekdays and weekends, following a self-scheduling model.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Prior experience as a Unit Aide is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Commitment to Family-Centered Care is necessary.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Familiarity with IWK Health fire response protocols is required.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset.
