About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Aide to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Unit Aide, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and clean environment for our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Order and manage supplies for the unit, ensuring that all necessary materials are available and easily accessible.
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms and common areas, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Assist with quality initiatives and participate in unit-wide quality improvement projects.
  • Complete regular workplace inspections, identifying and reporting any safety concerns or needed repairs.
  • Ensure patient rooms are clean and tidy, maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Lead the ordering process for non-stock items, ensuring timely delivery and minimizing delays.
  • Maintain and repair equipment, transporting defective items to the Biomedical Engineering department as needed.
  • Deliver requisitions, specimens, and other materials to various departments, providing excellent customer service and ensuring timely delivery.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience as a Unit Aide or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Commitment to Family-Centered Care and a patient-focused approach.
  • Knowledge of IWK Health fire response regulations and a strong understanding of safety protocols.
  • Competency in other languages is considered an asset.
