Position Overview

A licensed professional engineer is sought to serve as a technical lead, project manager, or team leader, delivering engineering services for the assessment, planning, computer modeling, design, construction, and inspection of public infrastructure and systems for various projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Program Manager overseeing the development and management of advanced traffic management systems, traffic management center operations, signal system oversight, work zone management, and traffic incident response.
  • Engage in policy formulation and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership and management for the Advanced Traffic Management System, ensuring effective time and task management, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Oversee Traffic Engineering and Operations, Project Management, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) procedures and design.
  • Foster supervisory and leadership skills, along with effective oral and written communication abilities, to facilitate interagency coordination.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage interpersonal relationships, exhibit innovation and creativity, thrive in fast-paced or high-pressure environments, and collaborate effectively within a team.

Salary Information

Position classified as CAD-Unclassified Professional 1. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing goals, objectives, strategies, policies, procedures, and budgets for large-scale and complex projects.
  • Managing one or more phases of significant public infrastructure or development initiatives.
  • Overseeing capital improvement program (CIP) projects, including development, procurement, and engineering and construction contracts.
  • Signing and sealing engineering documents.

Technical Expertise

Serve as a technical specialist or subject matter expert in advanced concepts, principles, and methods relevant to the assigned area. Stay updated on new techniques, technologies, and requirements to recommend program or application changes. Apply comprehensive knowledge of current engineering principles and practices as they relate to various aspects affecting the County.

Supervisory Role

Supervise a team of Engineers, Engineering Associates, Engineering Technicians, and Engineering Interns. Plan, schedule, and coordinate the preparation of documents and activities for multiple major projects. Review operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.

Emergency Management Responsibilities

In the event of an emergency or disaster, the employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department or relevant authorities.

Work Environment

Work is conducted in both office settings and construction sites. The role may involve light work, particularly if the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work.

Applicants holding a valid engineering license from another state or territory must meet current requirements to obtain licensure in Florida within six months of employment.
