Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Support Specialist to join our team at the Simcoe County District School Board. As a Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support to students to achieve success in academic, behavior, social, life skills, and co-op situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with diverse needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other exceptionalities.
  • Develop and implement behavior management systems to promote positive behavior and reduce challenging behaviors.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as toileting, feeding, and mobility, as required.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure seamless support and services.
Requirements
  • Relevant university degree or two-year college diploma in a human services field, such as Behavioral Sciences, Child and Youth Worker, or Educational Assistant.
  • Behavior Management Systems (BMS) training and experience working with students with ASD and other exceptionalities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team and adapt to changing situations.
