Job Summary

The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter/Tutor to provide interpreting and translating services for students. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality interpretation services in a variety of classroom settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide interpretation services for students in American Sign Language (ASL) in various classroom settings, including lectures, field trips, assemblies, and elective programs.
  • Review and maintain a full range of educational curriculum materials for the purpose of interpretation.
  • Collaborate with teachers, students, and other staff to ensure effective communication and support.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with interpreters, teachers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless communication.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Special Education.
Requirements
  • Three-year Interpreter diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months to one year related experience.
  • Fluent in American Sign Language and capable of interpreting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interpreters, teachers, students, and other staff.
  • Knowledge of cross-cultural issues of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Ontario Interpreter Services registration (OIS) or AVLIC Certification preferred.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work a full-time schedule, 35 hours per week, during the school year. Attendance at meetings outside normal working hours may be required.

What We Offer

The Simcoe County District School Board offers a competitive salary range of $32.41 per hour. Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees.
