Assistant Professor of Environmental Sociology

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our team as an Environmental Sociology Professor at the University of Alberta. As a member of our faculty, you will contribute to the development of our undergraduate and graduate programs, build new areas of expertise, and engage in interdisciplinary research collaborations.
The successful candidate will have a strong theoretical foundation in sociology, with a research program focused on topics in environmental, agricultural, or natural resource sociology. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who are skilled methodologists, conduct research on consumption and consumerism, and/or have an international focus.
A research program with links to sustainable development goals, Indigenous communities, and collaboration on interdisciplinary teams are also valued assets of a successful applicant. We also seek candidates who will support and advance university commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusivity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in sociology, environmental sociology, or a closely related field
- Experience working with topics in environmental, agricultural, or natural resource sociology
- Ability to teach quantitative methods and supervise graduate students
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong research program with external funding, engage in interdisciplinary research collaborations, and train and supervise graduate students. We also assume the successful candidate will contribute to the intellectual life of the university, the sociology profession, and to communities and groups who partner in research.
