Position Overview

The Mental Health Specialist will be responsible for delivering and overseeing services tailored to individuals facing significant mental health challenges. This role requires the ability to operate autonomously while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team and coordinating with various service providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement high-quality assessments and provide brief counseling using solution-focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy models.
  • Engage in the education and training of staff, students, and the broader community regarding mental health issues.
  • Initially focus on Withdrawal Management Services, with the flexibility to support other programs within Outpatient Mental Health Services as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Requirements:

  • For MSW: A Master's degree in Social Work and active membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
  • For MHC-M: A Master's degree in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, or a related health or social science discipline, along with current registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

Common Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience working with individuals with significant mental health needs.
  • Current C.P.I. training and basic C.P.R. certification.
  • Strong understanding of Recovery Principles and excellent assessment and treatment skills in both individual and group therapy settings.
  • Familiarity with the Mental Health Act and the DSM-V.
  • Experience in Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Single Session Therapy, Group Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
  • Reliable transportation for travel throughout the designated service areas.
  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and accommodate flexible shift requirements.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe workplace free from violence and harassment, while advocating for patient safety.
