We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child Life Specialist to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and therapeutic interventions to children and youth undergoing medical procedures and hospitalization.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients to identify their unique needs and develop personalized care plans.
- Provide preparation, coping skills coaching, and psychosocial support to minimize stress and anxiety during hospitalization.
- Develop and implement therapeutic activities that promote growth, development, and adaptation to the hospital environment.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure seamless care and support for patients and families.
- Document assessments, care plans, and interventions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's Degree in an area related to Child Development with required coursework for child life certification.
- Meets the eligibility requirements to write the Child Life Certification Examination.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and interact with patients and families applying theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural diversity.
- Demonstrated ability to represent and communicate the role of child life to others.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents.
