Due to our expanding project portfolio, we are seeking an Eastern Canada Geotechnical Lead to become part of our vibrant and growing team, working on landmark infrastructure initiatives both locally and internationally.

This position represents a strategic leadership opportunity within our Canada Unit, based in our Toronto office. The ideal candidate will possess the technical expertise necessary for geotechnical leadership, encompassing design and oversight in various domains such as transportation infrastructure, excavations, tunnels, water and wastewater management, energy, pipelines, ports, and additional infrastructure ventures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and deliver ground exploration initiatives, geotechnical design and analysis, technical documentation, and design assessments across transport, water, energy, and built environment sectors.
  • Lead and mentor a team of geotechnical engineers to execute investigations, geoseismic assessments, and geotechnical design tasks.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with internal and external clients, collaborating with other engineering disciplines and project managers.
  • Direct proposal efforts and compile comprehensive geotechnical proposals for diverse infrastructure projects.
  • Manage subcontractors and subconsultants to facilitate geotechnical investigation services, including drillers, utility locators, surveyors, traffic control, and geotechnical laboratories.
  • Engage with the geotechnical community in Ontario, particularly within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
  • Coordinate with the Canada Geotechnical Lead to strategize and oversee the recruitment of new team members, identifying skill gaps and planning for future growth.
Candidate Qualifications:
  • A solid academic foundation with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (a Master's degree is advantageous).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
  • Over 15 years of pertinent industry experience in geotechnical consultancy (excluding educational experience), with familiarity in working with key transportation and infrastructure agencies considered an asset.
  • Experience or qualifications for registration in MTO's Registry Appraisal and Qualifications System (RAQS) for medium or high complexity geotechnical engineering and tunneling categories is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities; capable of effective collaboration with all staff levels and clients, fostering the development of junior team members.
  • Strong technical acumen related to geotechnical investigations, geoseismic evaluations, and design work, including proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., Plaxis, GeoStudio, Rocscience, Ensoft).
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for supervising others, including reviewing and approving key deliverables.
  • Proven project management skills and a track record of technical leadership and collaboration.
