About Our Opportunity
In the role of Accessible Infrastructure Specialist, you will report directly to the Manager of Building Asset Planning. Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert guidance necessary for the establishment, execution, and oversight of the Accessibility Improvements Program (AIP) at NSPHA.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the formulation of the AIP for NSPHA, ensuring its integration into annual work plans to support effective capital planning and the design of specific accessibility initiatives.
- Engage with stakeholders and provincial accessibility organizations to foster productive relationships and guarantee adherence to accessibility standards.
- Oversee NSPHA's accessibility policies and conduct thorough program needs assessments to address complex issues raised by program stakeholders.
- Plan, develop, assess, promote, and oversee the AIP utilizing both current and emerging knowledge in the field.
- Track capital accessibility budgets and forecasts through timely coordination and analysis of operating expenses to generate financial reports.
- Manage daily interactions with AIP stakeholders, including clients, contract service providers, and operational teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- A university degree in a relevant field coupled with five (5) years of pertinent experience, particularly in accessibility standards and regulations. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in identifying issues to gain insights into accessibility challenges and conducting policy research to support accessibility initiatives.
- Familiarity with the Nova Scotia Accessibility Act and current codes and regulations pertinent to accessible infrastructure planning, including the National Building Code and National Fire Code.
- Ability to interpret architectural plans and documents aimed at achieving accessibility enhancements.
- Proficient in benchmarking, with experience in electronic document management and intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project software.
- A valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel are required.
Assets
- Certification from the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification program (or equivalent training).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
