Inpatient Care Hospitalist

The Hospitalist Service at Cooper Tacia General Contracting Company is an expanding service that provides opportunities to collaborate with allied health professionals to deliver exceptional inpatient care.
Our facility is equipped with 50 inpatient beds, including:
- ICU: 4
- Medical: 24
- Surgical: 17
- Overflow admissions managed in the Emergency Department
On average, hospitalists are expected to manage inpatient care for 12-16 patients each day.
Intensive Care Unit Responsibilities
- Hospitalists are responsible for the care of patients admitted to the ICU, which is designated for acute medical needs that are not suitable for general medical wards. This area often serves as a stabilization point for patients before they are transferred to a higher level of care.
- As the hospitalist program evolves, we are collaborating with partners to enhance and stabilize our hospitalist model, aiming for continuity comparable to other regions.
Leadership and Development
Effective leadership is crucial for the success and growth of the hospitalist program. Plans are underway to introduce a physician leader to oversee the hospitalist program, with further details to be shared soon.
Mentorship Opportunities
- For those interested in providing hospitalist services but feeling uncertain about the ICU component, mentorship is available from experienced resident hospitalist physicians to build confidence and skills.
- Anesthetists will offer consultative support for airway management, cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation, advanced life support, and pain management, playing an active role in stabilizing patients for transport.
- Consultation with an Intensivist is readily accessible via phone or messaging.
- We welcome applications from those who may not be comfortable with ICU care; our flexible scheduling allows for a mix of hospitalists who can provide ICU care alongside those focused on medical, surgical, and mental wellness care.
Work-Life Balance
To enhance work-life balance, we are expanding our hospitalist roster to ensure optimal coverage.
Program Overview
- Hospitalist physicians deliver adult medical (inpatient) care.
- Coverage includes the Medical Unit, Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit, and Mental Wellness Unit.
- Hospitalists maintain health records in accordance with established policies and clinical standards.
- The program covers assessments, consultations, and discharges for admitted patients, ensuring continuous support every day of the year.
- In exceptional cases, hospitalists may collaborate with external specialists for pediatric psychiatric patients.
Compensation Structure
- Hospitalists work a 12-hour shift, providing inpatient care.
- The daily compensation rate is $2760 through an alternate payment arrangement.
- On-call services outside of regular hours are billed separately.
Billing Practices
- All contracted physicians are required to shadow bill for services rendered.
- We are exploring options to facilitate electronic shadow billing for contracted locums.
Support for accommodation and transportation expenses is available for locum positions.
Qualifications
- Physicians must possess a Certificate from the College of Family Physicians.
- Licensing by the relevant medical council is required.
- Expressions of interest should include a current curriculum vitae and proof of certification.
