Your Role

We are currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Specialist to join our team on a full-time basis, working on-site in various locations. This position involves a rotation schedule and is crucial for the maintenance and monitoring of earthen structures at active mining sites and civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will operate independently in the field, supported by a Site Supervisor and Project Manager.

This role requires a commitment to safety and adherence to project-specific work schedules, including 12-hour shifts and travel to remote locations. Travel expenses will be reimbursed from designated locations, and travel hours will be compensated according to company policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to site-specific Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies to promote a safe working environment.
  • Engage in daily safety meetings and communicate any hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Document significant observations related to environmental and safety standards.
  • Monitor geotechnical parameters to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Conduct advanced soil sampling and compaction testing using specialized equipment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Maintain and operate geotechnical testing equipment safely.
  • Provide technical reports on construction monitoring and offer guidance during project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control and data management procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve shared goals and objectives.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues to deliver high-quality results consistently.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in relevant competencies and operate light vehicles for site access.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather necessary project information.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Standard First Aid Level C with AED, CSTS, and H2S Alive certifications required.
  • Pre-access drug and alcohol testing and background checks are mandatory.
  • Additional qualifications may be required based on project needs.

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary Technical Diploma in geological, geotechnical, civil, or mining disciplines.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant industry experience, including mine driving.
  • Professional designation with ASET or ASTTBC is an asset.
  • Additional qualifications may be required based on project needs.

Physical Requirements

This position requires meeting the physical demands outlined in the Stantec Field Physical Demands Assessment. A fit-for-duty assessment is necessary prior to field deployment and is a condition of employment.
