Become our next Senior Geotechnical Engineer

In this position, you will integrate into the Geotechnical team located in Calgary, AB. Reporting to the Geotechnical Discipline Manager, the successful candidate will join a well-established and diverse engineering group engaged in developing and executing a variety of challenging projects across Western Canada.

Collaborating closely with geotechnical engineers and project managers with various areas of expertise, the successful applicant will assist in pursuit leads and proposal development, project execution, geotechnical site investigations, engineering analysis, and the preparation of geotechnical engineering reports. This role includes providing oversight throughout the project lifecycle, from design to construction phases. The ideal candidate will possess substantial project management experience, ensuring financial leadership on projects and timely completion of deliverables for clients. The current focus will be primarily on geotechnical projects in and around Calgary and other regions of Alberta, with some regional travel anticipated.

  • Addressing clients' geotechnical challenges
  • Leading and coordinating all efforts to execute assigned projects
  • Ensuring accountability for project financial outcomes
  • Maintaining quality of deliverables, including reporting and construction reviews
  • Preparing invoices, managing collections, and updating backlog reports
  • Directing, mentoring, and assigning tasks to junior/intermediate staff on projects, while coordinating resource planning with the Geotechnical Discipline Manager
  • Collaborating with team management for project, financial, and personnel coordination
  • Facilitating client meetings and engaging in conceptual and problem-solving discussions
  • Participating in regular business development activities
  • Leading proposal writing efforts, including coordinating and mentoring others
  • Providing guidance in design and report writing, or overseeing junior engineers in draft preparation

What your experience looks like

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geological/geotechnical engineering
  • A Master's degree in geotechnical engineering is advantageous
  • Professional license with APEGA
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience
  • At least 3 years of project management experience
  • Experience in settlement estimations, slope stability analysis, shallow and deep foundation designs, pile designs, retaining wall designs, and liquefaction assessments
  • Some familiarity with seismic designs and analysis is beneficial
  • Ability to coordinate, mentor, and assign work to junior staff
  • Proficient in interfacing and communicating with both internal and external clients
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics applications such as MS Word, Excel, and AutoCAD
  • Proven experience in project development and execution
  • Capacity to meet deadlines, remain organized, and work effectively under pressure
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation for job site visits
