Bradford, Ontario, Canada Aurora Cannabis Full time

Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Lead Manager of Engineering and Maintenance to collaborate closely with the corporate engineering division to guarantee the secure and effective functioning of our facilities. This role will involve overseeing the identification and prioritization of engineering initiatives at the site level, managing maintenance strategies, and working alongside the Director of Engineering and Senior Director of Operations in planning capital investments specific to the site. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership abilities, technical knowledge, and a results-driven mindset in a dynamic setting.

As the Lead Manager, Engineering and Maintenance, your responsibilities will include:

Maintenance Oversight:

Formulate and execute preventive maintenance strategies to uphold a safe working environment, ensure product integrity, reduce downtime, and optimize equipment efficiency. Establish maintenance timelines, protocols, and procedures to enhance asset performance and ensure adherence to regulatory standards. Collaborate with production teams to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize operational disruptions. Assess equipment performance, diagnose issues, and implement necessary corrective measures. Supervise and refine the spare parts program, ensuring cost-effectiveness and continuity of business operations. Lead site-level change management for new infrastructure and assets, ensuring effective planning and successful execution while updating or establishing new maintenance protocols as required.

Capital Planning:

Develop and sustain a strategic capital investment roadmap to support the long-term growth and sustainability of the facility. Assess capital expenditure requests, perform cost-benefit evaluations, and provide recommendations to senior management. Partner with corporate engineering, finance, and procurement teams to secure funding, acquire equipment and supplies, and manage vendor relationships.

Leadership and Team Development:

Offer leadership, mentorship, and direction to the maintenance and reliability teams. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability within the department. Conduct performance assessments, establish performance objectives, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to team members. Identify training and development opportunities to enhance the technical competencies of the team. Encourage collaboration among site maintenance teams, sharing expertise across locations and supporting network-wide initiatives.

Compliance and Regulatory Management:

Ensure that all maintenance and engineering operations adhere to applicable regulatory standards, industry norms, and company policies. Stay updated on changes in regulations and standards related to facility operations, equipment safety, and environmental compliance. Collaborate with compliance teams to address any regulatory issues or audit findings.

Asset Management and Lifecycle Strategy:

Develop and implement asset management strategies to maximize the lifecycle of equipment and infrastructure. Conduct regular evaluations of asset condition, performance, and depreciation to inform maintenance and replacement strategies. Create long-term asset replacement plans and budget forecasts to ensure the ongoing reliability and efficiency of critical assets.

Data Analysis and Performance Monitoring:

Utilize data analytics tools and performance metrics to track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to maintenance, engineering, and facility operations. Analyze trends, identify areas for enhancement, and formulate action plans to improve equipment reliability and productivity. Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management to communicate performance trends, project milestones, and strategic recommendations.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Proven experience in managing maintenance programs, executing engineering projects, and leading capital investment initiatives. Strong project management capabilities with a background in project planning, budgeting, and risk assessment. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and best practices in maintenance and engineering. Experience in the cannabis industry or other highly regulated sectors is advantageous.

Educational Background and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is preferred. At least 7 years of experience in maintenance and engineering roles, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial context.

Additional Qualifications:

Previous experience with maintaining and processing facilities. Legally authorized to work in Canada. Dependable, punctual, and dedicated. Flexible regarding work schedules. Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills. Safety-conscious. High integrity and honesty. Commitment to product quality. Proficient in English (both verbal and written).
