Opportunity Overview
As part of our recent acquisition of LA CIE MATÉRIAUX DE CONSTRUCTION BP CANADA, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health, Safety & Environment Director to join our team. This role is crucial in shaping the safety culture of our plant and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for environmental health and safety (EHS) at the site, collaborating closely with the Plant Manager.
- Foster a proactive EHS culture by engaging employees and promoting accountability through effective communication and training programs.
- Lead initiatives to enhance workplace safety practices and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Ensure compliance with provincial health & safety standards, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Coordinate investigations into workplace incidents and analyze root causes to prevent future occurrences.
- Collaborate with the plant's joint health & safety committee to ensure effective communication and participation from all levels of the organization.
- Monitor EHS performance indicators, track key metrics, and implement data-driven solutions to improve outcomes.
- Participate in knowledge sharing initiatives with other EHS professionals across Canada.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Relations, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Health & Safety Manager in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably within a unionized setting.
- Professional designation or membership in a relevant occupational health & safety organization.
- Comprehensive understanding of provincial health & safety standards and legislation.
- Proven ability to drive change and motivate employees towards a culture of safety.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Fluency in both French and English is essential for effective communication with suppliers and partners across Canada.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with SAP is an asset.
