Position Overview

The role of Quality Control and Field Service Inspector at 311 FLSmidth Ltd. is pivotal in ensuring the integrity and performance of our systems in the mining sector.

This position acts as a technical consultant to our external clients, focusing on all post-sales operations.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Quality/Field Service Manager, the daily responsibilities of the Quality Control/Field Service Inspector encompass:

  • Providing expert advice for installations at client locations.
  • Conducting quality inspections of materials and equipment both in-house and at supplier and customer sites.
  • Evaluating parts and equipment, implementing corrective and preventive measures as necessary.
  • Diagnosing issues and proposing effective repair solutions.
  • Offering guidance on equipment repairs, upgrades, operations, and maintenance.
  • Delivering detailed feedback to the Engineering Department regarding potential product design enhancements.
  • Collaborating with the Customer Service Department as needed.
  • Documenting operational successes and challenges for future reference and analysis.
  • Preparing comprehensive progress and status reports.
  • Conducting technical training and providing support to customers.
  • Performing pre-sales and post-sales inspections to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and purchase orders.
  • Overseeing receiving, in-process, and final inspections at suppliers.
  • Providing feedback to the Engineering Department when discrepancies are identified during manufacturing.
  • Participating in project management meetings as required.
  • Facilitating the expediting of various contracts with suppliers.
  • Building and maintaining strong business relationships with clients to foster future opportunities.
  • Promoting a culture of safety for oneself and others impacted by the company's operations.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A strong understanding of welding, machining, assembly, and painting processes, along with the capability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, specifications, and standards.
  • A solid working knowledge of visual weld defect identification and inspection techniques, as well as a good grasp of NDT methods (LPI/MPI/UT).
  • A technologist diploma in Welding, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering Technology, coupled with seven to ten years of QA/QC experience in heavy industry.
  • Proficiency in using computers for preparing inspection reports, NCR/CAR reports, and job status updates.
  • The ability to plan and execute inspections in accordance with QMS requirements, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001/14001/45001 standards.
  • A comprehensive understanding of quality concepts applicable to low-volume and engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • The willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Adaptability to various task execution methods while effectively interacting with diverse individuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.

Work Environment

The role is based at the company’s office, with frequent travel required to client sites across various regions.

Working Hours

Standard working hours are typically 40 hours per week, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
