Job Overview:

The Payroll and Benefits Administrator plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate processing and distribution of payroll within the organization. This position is essential for maintaining compliance with collective agreements, institutional policies, and applicable employment regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the setup and processing of payroll transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Handle employee enrolments and modifications related to payroll and benefits, maintaining comprehensive documentation.
  • Generate detailed payroll reports and calculate necessary remittances.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from staff and collaborate closely with the Human Resources department to manage employee data effectively.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completion of Grade 12 and certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) from the Canadian Payroll Association.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant payroll experience in a computerized environment, ideally within a multi-union context.
  • Consideration will be given to equivalent combinations of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processing methods and practices.
  • Strong understanding of benefits policies and regulations pertaining to enrolment and record changes.
  • Proficient in using computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, particularly in a Windows environment. Familiarity with the Banner system is advantageous.
  • Solid grasp of the statutes and collective agreements that govern payroll operations.
  • Awareness of the interdependencies between Human Resources and Payroll functions is beneficial.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and capacity to meet deadlines amidst interruptions.
  • Proven decision-making skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Initiative to propose improvements to departmental processes and client services.
  • Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to interpret and apply institutional and governmental policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in performing mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information.
  • Keyboarding proficiency of 50 words per minute.

Work Schedule: Standard hours are from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
