Position Overview:

The Mental Health Community Support Specialist plays a vital role in delivering housing and support services aimed at assisting clients in achieving and maintaining independent living. This position involves working under the guidance of the Department Manager to facilitate a supportive environment for clients.

Work Schedule

Seeking casual specialists available for various shifts including days, afternoons, and nights.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement programs that include leisure activities, cooking, and maintenance tasks, engaging clients in daily life skills.
  • Provide community-based psychosocial rehabilitation services, helping clients access and connect with community programs.
  • Teach and model essential life skills for self-care and independent living.
  • Utilize effective communication strategies to build collaborative relationships with clients.
  • Support clients in enhancing self-esteem and decision-making abilities through role modeling.
  • Assist clients in identifying and accessing community resources for leisure, vocational, and educational services.
  • Monitor and document clients' physical and mental health status, taking appropriate actions as needed.
  • Advocate for clients to uphold their rights and dignity.
  • Collaborate professionally with clients, peers, supervisors, and external agencies.
  • Develop personalized life skills programs, involving family and community resources when appropriate.
  • Complete all administrative tasks and requirements in a timely manner.
  • Conduct assessments to create individualized plans based on clients' interests and needs.
  • Administer medications safely in accordance with established policies.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
  • Address health and safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records as required.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
  • May supervise students and volunteers.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Community Social Service or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to provide necessary certifications upon hire, including First Aid + CPR, WHMIS, and FoodSafe.
  • Clearance from the Ministry of Justice and TB, along with immunization records.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of housing issues and local community resources.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction approaches in community settings.
  • Proficient in crisis de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience working with marginalized individuals and those at risk of homelessness.
  • Familiarity with psychosocial rehabilitation practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Physical capability to perform job duties.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients' conditions.
