Position Summary

The Automation Systems Technician plays a crucial role in the installation, calibration, maintenance, and enhancement of automated industrial machinery. This position is vital for ensuring the seamless operation of machinery, with the technician responsible for monitoring and maintaining equipment. Effective Automation Systems Technicians are adept at swiftly addressing any issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and oversee the implementation of innovative processes.
  • Install upgrades to existing systems and resolve hardware, software, and instrumentation challenges.
  • Support start-up operations and activities.
  • Develop and sustain automation processes.
  • Supervise testing protocols, document findings, and ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations.
  • Be available for support calls around the clock.
  • Install, diagnose, and repair programmable logic controllers and other devices that facilitate automated operations.
  • Engage in PLC, robot, and HMI programming, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on production and support equipment.
  • Execute repairs on machinery as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining all programming software, application files, and programming hardware.
  • Enhance equipment reliability and operational uptime related to automation and controls.
  • Implement Continuous Improvement initiatives related to automation and robotics as assigned.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Working Environment

  • Must be physically capable of lifting up to 60 lbs.
  • Requires manual dexterity.
  • Overtime may be necessary.
  • Work is conducted in an industrial setting where personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
  • Support operations across three shifts (days, afternoons, midnights).

Qualifications

  • Completion of a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology (Robot and Automation Program) or a two-year technical certificate program.
  • Experience in manufacturing with strong technical expertise in programming, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Familiarity with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), Robotics (Nachi, ABB, Fanuc), HMI programming, and Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron).
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
