Position Summary
The Automation Systems Technician plays a crucial role in the installation, calibration, maintenance, and enhancement of automated industrial machinery. This position is vital for ensuring the seamless operation of machinery, with the technician being responsible for monitoring and maintaining equipment efficiency. Effective Automation Systems Technicians are adept at quickly addressing any issues that may arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and oversee the implementation of innovative processes.
- Execute retrofits on existing systems while diagnosing hardware, software, and instrumentation challenges.
- Provide support during start-up activities.
- Develop and maintain automation processes.
- Supervise testing protocols, document findings, and ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations.
- Be available for support calls around the clock.
- Install, diagnose, and repair programmable logic controllers and other devices that control automated systems.
- Engage in PLC, robotic, and HMI programming, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Perform preventative maintenance on production and support equipment.
- Facilitate equipment repairs.
- Assist in maintaining all programming software, application files, and programming hardware.
- Strive to enhance equipment reliability and operational uptime concerning automation and controls.
- Implement Continuous Improvement initiatives related to automation and robotics as directed.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Working Environment
- Must possess the physical capability to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Requires manual dexterity.
- Overtime may be necessary.
- Operate in an industrial setting where personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
- Support a three-shift operation (days, afternoons, midnights).
Qualifications
- Graduate of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology (Robot and Automation Program) or completion of a two-year degree or technical certificate program.
- Relevant manufacturing experience with strong technical knowledge in programming, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment.
- Familiarity with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), Robotics (Nachi, ABB, Fanuc), HMI programming, and Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron).
- Exceptional analytical skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
