Situated in the unceded territory of the syilx people, the Okanagan Indian Band encompasses six reserves in the North Okanagan region.

The Okanagan Indian Band is seeking a dynamic Director of Administration to lead our administrative functions and foster positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. This role is pivotal in supporting the strategic vision of the Band while ensuring adherence to sound financial practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and coordinate comprehensive strategic plans that align with organizational objectives.
  • Facilitate planning initiatives for various projects, ensuring effective project management practices are in place.
  • Provide guidance to Department Managers in executing strategic plans at all levels.
  • Monitor and assess the implementation of operational plans in accordance with the Council's vision.
  • Oversee the organization’s data and cybersecurity strategies, ensuring robust protection measures are in place.

Financial Oversight

  • Collaborate with departments to manage the financial performance of the Okanagan Indian Band.
  • Stay informed on budgetary and funding requirements, ensuring compliance with applicable financial legislation.
  • Ensure proper expenditure of program funds and fulfill reporting obligations to funding programs.

Program Management

  • Research and coordinate funding opportunities for various programs and projects.
  • Establish and maintain program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Provide project management support, ensuring effective tracking and reporting of activities.
  • Lead assessments to evaluate program effectiveness and community needs.

Relationship Building

  • Represent the Band at various meetings and forums, advocating for community interests.
  • Ensure that community members have opportunities to voice their concerns and needs regarding programs and services.

Administrative Support

  • Assist in the preparation of agendas and meeting records for Band Council meetings.
  • Facilitate communication between Band Council and community members, ensuring transparency in decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field, with extensive experience in a senior role.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in executive management, with a strong background in strategic planning and program evaluation.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is highly valued.
