Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team at BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services. As an Occupational Therapist - Complex Care Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to individuals affected by complex mental health and substance use issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Planning
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients to identify their occupational performance issues and develop personalized plans to address these needs.
    • Collaborate with clients, caregivers, and other healthcare providers to ensure that services are tailored to meet the client's goals and priorities.
  • Service Delivery
    • Implement occupational therapy services using evidence-based approaches, including individual and group interventions.
    • Engage clients in activities that promote their occupational potential and support their recovery goals.
  • Case Management
    • Manage a complex caseload of clients with diverse needs and circumstances.
    • Coordinate care with other healthcare providers and community agencies to ensure that clients receive comprehensive support.
  • Education and Support
    • Provide education and counseling to clients and their families on topics related to occupational therapy and mental health.
    • Support other caregivers and healthcare providers in their understanding of occupational therapy and its role in mental health care.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Baccalaureate in Occupational Therapy.
    • Two (2) years' recent, related experience working in a psychiatric setting with individuals who have complex mental health and addictions issues.
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
    • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology.
    • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of clients and staff.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
