Job Summary:
The City of Iqaluit is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Public Works team. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance duties, repairs, and overhauls of municipal vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles
- Conduct thorough inspections and diagnose mechanical issues
- Overhaul and repair complex mechanical systems
- Maintain accurate records and inventory of equipment and supplies
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff members
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations
Requirements:
- Interprovincial (Red Seal) and/or Nunavut Heavy Duty Mechanic certification
- Class 3 License with Airbrake Endorsement
- Four years' experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy trucks, equipment, and automotive systems
- Working knowledge of mechanical trades and welding
- Precise organizational skills for records and inventory management
- Skilled driving abilities to operate heavy equipment when necessary
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
Assets:
- Ability to speak and write in both English and Inuktitut
- Northern experience and knowledge of Arctic environments
