Public Works Specialist

Job Summary:

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Public Works team. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance duties, repairs, and overhauls of municipal vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnose mechanical issues
  • Overhaul and repair complex mechanical systems
  • Maintain accurate records and inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff members
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations

Requirements:

  • Interprovincial (Red Seal) and/or Nunavut Heavy Duty Mechanic certification
  • Class 3 License with Airbrake Endorsement
  • Four years' experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy trucks, equipment, and automotive systems
  • Working knowledge of mechanical trades and welding
  • Precise organizational skills for records and inventory management
  • Skilled driving abilities to operate heavy equipment when necessary
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting

Assets:

  • Ability to speak and write in both English and Inuktitut
  • Northern experience and knowledge of Arctic environments
